TIME SPENT
This little piece came about spontaneously, in the middle of another creative process. I experimented with a variety of materials and techniques on this piece of wood. What started as a simple test piece eventually took on a form of its own. After sanding and varnishing it, I attached a small hook to the back so it can be hung up. In this way, a simple experiment became a small work that can stand beautifully on its own. All in all, I think I spent a few hours working on it.
MATERIALS
Underlayment, chalk, varnish, sandpaper, vintage rub-on lettering, pencil, paint, felt-tip pen, acrylic paint, nail polish, marker, charcoal.
COSTS
I try to keep costs as low as possible by working with found, second-hand, or donated materials whenever possible, as well as materials and tools I already have at home or in my studio. Still, the actual cost of making something is often higher than it may seem at first glance. For this piece, the costs are minimal: a small piece of underlayment, a copper hook, rub-on lettering, varnish, sandpaper, and the use of various pencils and chalks.
