Frequently asked questions

For buyers

How do I know the items are really handmade?

All items on TAS are carefully selected. For each item, you’ll also find information about the production time, material costs, and materials used. In addition, every maker has an explanation of their creative process on their own page, and we thoroughly screen all makers before accepting them onto TAS.

What are the shipping costs?

This depends on the size of the package and whether it is shipped with insurance. Fragile packages and high-value packages are sometimes insured. You’ll see the shipping costs during checkout in the shop. We also offer the option to pick up the package from the maker, which is free!

How long does shipping take?

Shipping times can be found on each product page. Delivery times depend on how quickly the maker can work. We don’t have a distribution center; every maker ships their own items. So sometimes it may take a little while. We aim to have all packages shipped within 7 days. Custom-made items naturally have a longer production and shipping time. The maker will communicate this with you.

What is your return policy?

All items purchased through TAS are eligible for returns. This means you have 14 days to report your return via info@theartistsurvives.com and send it back to the maker. Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. The return must be sent back undamaged and in its original condition and packaging. More information can be found in our return policy.

What should I do if my order is damaged during shipping?

Oh no! Despite careful packaging, this can still happen. Of course, that’s not fun for anyone. Please report it with photo evidence or a tracking code via info@theartistsurvives.com. If the shipment was insured, the maker will request compensation through PostNL.

How can I start selling on TAS myself?

Great to hear you’re considering selling on TAS! If you make your products yourself in the Netherlands, you can apply through the website. We’ll get back to you within two weeks regarding a possible TAS shop.

How do you select which makers you work with?

First of all, there are strict standards we maintain and do not compromise on. Products may not be dropshipped, AI-generated, or entirely made outside the Netherlands. The work must be original and created by the maker themselves. We are not interested in plagiarism. Another important factor is professionalism. TAS is not a platform for every hobbyist, but for people seriously dedicated to their craft. Not everyone will be a full-time artist, but many of our makers rely on their art for income.

What costs or commissions do you charge?

Our name says it all — we help makers survive. That’s why we don’t charge makers any fees. It’s important to us that opening a TAS shop will always remain free in the future as well. The commission we charge is paid by the customer. This is 15% of the total product amount. We use this to fund the development and improvement of the site, as well as the fixed costs involved in keeping a platform like this running. Think of online software programs and tools that help the website operate more smoothly and efficiently.

What happens if something goes wrong during shipping?

Unfortunately, it may happen that your package does not arrive, or that the product arrives damaged or broken. You can ship your parcel with insurance through TAS. We recommend this for fragile and more expensive items. You can then claim compensation from PostNL for amounts up to €500. Was the item not insured? Please contact TAS, and we will work together to find a solution.

How do you protect makers against counterfeit or copied designs?

This is an important topic for us, although there is currently not much we can do about it. We stay up to date with the latest developments and provide makers with tips wherever possible to help prevent this. In the future, we hope to take a more proactive role in protecting our makers and their products.

Every first saturday of the month we open new market stalls and add new items!
