Deer and Belgian Malinois Embroidery| Janneke Embroidery

After seeing this power duo on Pinterest, it gave me all the feels and I just had to embroider it. It popped up on my For You page as this tiny image among the rest, and I had to do a double take and scroll back once I realized it was actually a deer next to a Belgian Malinois. So many different features, yet somehow so similar at first glance. It resonated a little too well with my inner imposter syndrome. now its only the question which of the two lied on their resume.

I chose green shades I thought matched their coat colors nicely and left the frayed bottom edge of the fabric visible, kind of mimicking the grass the real animals were standing on. But near the end, it still felt a tiny bit dull, so I decided to spruce it up and make it feel more modern. I added beads, which ended up looking like shiny flowers.

Because I’d just finished a few other pieces, this one got my full attention for once. It still took about 60 hours to finish (just like most of my work), but I loved giving it that focus over the past two weeks.
