Rope wall object nr21| Studio Julie Thissen
Makers price
€60,87
This wall object is made of rope. It’s an abstract composition, like a three-dimensional illustration, designed to catch everyone’s eye on your wall.
This item is part of a collection of wall pieces, all made from rope, some of which also include details in leather or reflective material. They can be seen as three-dimensional illustrations made to hang on the wall. These pieces are the result of an ongoing research project, in which I develop new techniques to shape the rope in unexpected ways and give it a new visual identity. I am drawn to this material because it can be soft and flexible, like fabric, but also structured and fixed. This combination makes it interesting to shape and transform.
The project started with jewellery, where I experimented with combining rope, beads, leather, and sequins to create earrings. Over time, my focus expanded to more abstract objects, such as these wall pieces, as well as XL versions for which I have been developing my own oversized rope in collaboration with the TextileLab in Tilburg. The pieces shown at The Artist Survives are part of this ongoing research, and each piece is one of a kind.
