The Tagblocks are inspired by the square block wave dampers in the Scheveningen sea, the principle of the Wailing Wall, and traces of people in public spaces: graffiti tags, wall writings, thoughts that are left behind. Each block carries texts that feel like fragments from a diary, sometimes raw, sometimes poetic, sometimes comforting. A silent call: I was here and hear me! The Tagblocks now exist in various sizes, which have further developed during the creation process. With Dymotape and with mixed media. From smaller objects to larger works: each size evokes a different presence and function. Some Tagblocks are made to order as a personal tribute or tangible memory of a loved one.

TIME SPENT
I start by writing texts, I use the Dymo embossing tool on the Dymotape, apply the text letter by letter unto the wood. Sawing, sanding, gluing, using lots of rolls of Dymotape and adjusting where necessary as if I were writing with a typewriter. Also cutting and finishing the edges both of the tape as of the block. In theory, this work takes about 3 working days, but in practice it often takes longer due to thinking time, travel time, text adjustments, and the drying time of the glue, which usually means it takes several weeks.
MATERIALS
For a Tagblock, I use underlayment as a base, which I cut to size and glue with wood glue. I apply the text manually with self-adhesive Dymotape, after which I finish the whole work with sandpaper for a calm, refined appearance.
COSTS
If you assume three days of work (approximately 24 hours) at €95 per hour plus material costs, sawing costs, glue, Dymotape, sanding materials, transport, and packaging. The total cost per object roughly comes to about €2,380 to €2,635
