Dachshund & Bike Embroidery| Janneke Embroidery

I wanted to practice my shiny-surface embroidery some more and found this reference photo of a beautiful vintage race bike on Pinterest. perfect lighting, clear details, the ideal starting point.

But I always try to make embroidery pieces I’d want to hang on my own wall, so of course I had to add a furry friend. One that would fit in a bicycle basket, obviously. So: dachshund it was.

I knew I wanted a wire basket so you could still see most of the dog, but I felt sorry for the imaginary paws, so I added a fluffy blanket.

I definitely made it a bit harder for myself by combining multiple reference photos: three different dogs went into this one embroidered dachshund (one for the face and two for the body). And as you can imagine, I couldn’t find a reference photo of this kind of bicycle with a basket on the front ,that would completely ruin the aerodynamics of this speedy bike.

I really like how it turned out, and I think I can already see some improvements in my shiny-surface work. I’m especially happy with how the metal steering part of the bike turned out. And the combination of the green bike and the purple fabric gives it a bright, fun, and modern look don’t you think?
