Atelier Fleur

“The hurrier i go the behinder I get” – Lewis Carroll

In Atelier Fleur I try to get closer to everyday magic through slow, meditative art and design. With meticulous stipple-technique details, natural pigments, and the resurrection of secondhand treasures, I use my craft to appreciate the magic of slowing down.
All the pieces I create for Atelier Fleur require a lot of manual work and a lot of hours. Nevertheless, I paradoxically discover a sense of expanded time and space. It's as I am pausing to breathe, syncing with nature's rhythm. And it’s in this state of flow that magic feels so close by. By slowing down, you'll uncover the extraordinary in the ordinary of everyday life. The pieces of Atelier Fleur are a reminder to this.

Mijn Creatieve Proces

"I work in collaboration with nature by making my own paint from natural treasures, such as rocks, plants, soil and flowers that I find on my walks or grow in the garden. This process invites me to slow down and think in a more long-term and seasonal way, which is quite different from simply using ready-made paint from a shop. I have to consider which plants grow in which season, and the process itself often requires at least 24 hours to transform a plant into paint.

In addition, I work with textiles, making small and large tapestries that are entirely sewn and embroidered by hand. I use recycled fabrics that I find in thrift shops or that hold a particular meaning for me. I also experiment with plant-dyeing garments.

For me, making everything by hand is meaningful because, as mentioned above, I love how it invites me to slow down and create something with attention and care.

The amount of time I spend making a piece depends on its complexity and size. An A3-sized drawing can take around 24 hours, including sketching, making the plant-based paint and creating the final artwork. A small tapestry measuring 30 × 40 cm can take around 35 hours to complete.
